Introduction

This is a blog about my family and I trying to eat our CSA share. For some people this may not be a challenge. For us it's work. Let me explain - We are two working parents with two young girls, our schedules flip and flop, and neither of us love to cook. But I do love my Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable share. It is my favorite time of year.

Once a week a big blue truck pulls up to our alley and unloads boxes of produce to our back porch. We're in week two right now and besides the radishes this week, everything we've gotten so far is green. Lettuce, spinach, rainbow chard, scallions, broccoli, basil plants, collards and kale have all arrived at our doorstep. Here are a couple things we've made so far - omlettes, fried rice, thai peanut soup (with the chard - a farm recipe) and salads. I've eaten more salads since the CSA started than I have probably in the past year. I love it.

I'm not normally a salad girl, but I'm coming around. It might be the freshness of these greens, but I'm beginning to suspect that maybe it has to do with this feeling of connection I have to them. I would be sad to waste them. And so I chop and pile them onto my plate. I decorate them with all sorts of edible beauties - carrots, radishes, sunflower seeds, berries, croutons, whatever else I can find - taking care that they look just right before I dig in.
